NIGERIA CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION MINIMUM STANDARDS (2020 EDITION)
Introduction
The Department of Business Education is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to teach business-related subjects effectively. The programme covers areas like accounting, commerce, office practice, and entrepreneurship. Graduates are prepared to promote business awareness and self-reliance at the basic education level.
Philosophy
The essence of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Business Education is foster national development through business programmes as enshrined in the National Policy on Education. Consequently, business education programmes shall provide skills in new and emerging jobs and innovations to fit the world of work or self-reliant. The medium is the provision of dynamic education that is demand driven.
Objectives of the Programme
The objectives of the programme are to:
- Produce competent NCE graduates who will teach business subjects in secondary schools and other related educational institutions.
- Produce competent NCE graduates who will epitomize business spirit in the society
- Produce competent NCE graduates who will commence the development of the much-desired revolution in vocational and entrepreneurial skills from the Primary through Secondary schools.
- Equip graduates with necessary competencies for a post-NCE degree programme in Business Education.
- Equip graduates with the right business competencies for a life of work in the office as well as for self-employment.
Admission Requirements
- A Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or G.C.E. ‘O’ Level with credits in 5 subjects including English Language and mathematics at not more than two sittings. Two of the credits must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to offer.
- All candidates wishing to be considered for admission must meet the requirements of an accredited body such as JAMB.
- Candidate must pass RACOED screening tests and interviews.
