In his speech, the Provost of the institution, Alhaji Oyewale K.M, who welcomed the guests and other attendees, highlighted some of the event’s focal points to the gathering. The Provost stated that the orientation programme is needed to sensitize the students on various rules and regulations and core activities of the College. He thanked the organisers, especially the Chairman of the Orientation Committee, Mr Mikail Hamzat, for putting the programme together.

In the keynote address titled, “Security consciousness of students both in and outside the campus”, the Area Commander, Nigeria Police Force, Ikirun Division, represented by the commander on criminal matters, ASP Alex Adeboye, reiterated that, “Security is everyone’s business, so everybody must be mentally alert wherever they are”. Adeboye who stated some hazards to be cautious of cautioned the students to shun all manner of crimes such as cultism, kidnapping, cybercrime and raping. However, he called out his personal number and that of the Area Commander to all the gathering, “in case of emergency”.

One of the College’s Governing Council members and a guest at the occasion, Prince Adeoye M.A discussed on “the effect of social vices in the life of students”. In his opinion, “students who know he has future ambition should flee all social vices in its entirety.” Prince Adeoye who affirmed that “there are a lot of social vices in schools, such as thuggery, cultism, examination malpractices”, however, enlightened the students on their causes and how to curb them.

A lecturer, Mr Oketayo Wasiu, briefly discussed the ethics and code of conduct of students on-campus and Hostel. He classified the codes to be General code, examination code and dress code. He added that indecent dressing is highly prohibited in the College and as their “first-semester examination is forthcoming, students should shun malpractices.”

Calculation of students’ Grade Point (GP) and Cumulative Grade Point Aggregate (CGPA) was done by Biology lecturer, Mr Matthew Adehanloye, where he further explained that students with carryover would have to come back the year after to attempt the failed courses.

Earlier, the Deputy Provost, Mr Hamzat Musa, towed the audience down the College’s history line, titled “About Raphat College of Education”. According to him, the College had its foundation laying ceremony on 19th, June 2015. “the institution was granted NCCE approval on 24th March 2020, while the school commenced lectures on 21st September 2020, after experiencing a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Deputy Provost, however, noted that admission into the school would be made through JAMB soon.

The Registrar, Miss Raimot Hamzat made the formal introduction of Staff and Management of the College to declare the occasion opened.

Highlight of the orientation exercise was Drama performance by Yoruba Language Students of the College, Cultural Dance, Tie Contest, Quiz and Prizes, refreshments as well as token giveaways to students for various performances.

It would be recalled that the Orientation Exercise organised for the students is first of its kind, aimed at sensitizing them on their various activities in their stay in the College.
