Raphat College of Education, Obaagun, Osun State, on Wednesday, 14 July 2021, held its maiden matriculation ceremony.

In his speech, the Proprietor of the College, Alhaji Amusat Abdulwahab, noted that it was a dream come true to see the students matriculated into the College, after much delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He admitted that he was delighted that the College had given privileges to the matriculating students through its free tuition fee and formidable learning environment since inception.

Alhaji Amusat who traced the history of the College back to its foundation laying ceremony added that the College commenced a full academic session on the 21st of September, 2020.

According to him, “the College was founded to cater for students who were not financially buoyant but were keen to further their educational pursuit. I hereby assure you that Raphat College of Education, will not rest on its laurels in providing free education, adequate educational facilities and a conducive learning environment in the future for those who are willing to join the College”. He stated.

The Provost of the College, Alhaji Moshood Kunle Oyewale, in his matriculation address stated that the matriculation ceremony offers the students opportunity to embark on a unique life experience adding that, their presence as students of the college serves as a testimony of their determination to become important in the future.

” As you begin your studies, you are assured of a friendly academic environment where both teaching and non-teaching staff are dedicated to preparing you for work in the future with integrity and excellence. The taking of the matriculation oath signifies your formal admission into the College. It enjoins you to respect and obey the rules and regulations of the College.

I would like to admonish you to avoid all forms of social vices such as cultism, sexual misconduct, indecent dressing, examination malpractices, thuggery, fraudulent acts and other nefarious activities which can mar your brighter future.” He cautioned.

The Provost who congratulated the students for choosing the College, however, hope they will be good ambassadors and associate their names in pride and confidence with the College.

Some of the students, Taiwo Ayanwole who was credited for composing the College Anthem, and Jamiu Adebare, the first student to pay the Registration Fee, were granted a free Registration Fee Scholarship of N24,000 for the 2021/2022 session. Fortunate Bamigboye and Nafisat Ganiyu for their outstanding performances in the first-semester examination were also granted free Registration Fees for the next session, courtesy of one of the Governing Council members, Alhaji Lukmon Atoba. However, Phebean Shobalaje was acknowledged for her creativity in decorating the College Auditorium, the venue of the matriculation ceremony.

In attendance at the event were High Chiefs of Obaagun Land, who represented the Oloobagun of Obaagun, His Royal Highness Oba Jimoh Adebisi Okunade, the Area Commander Nigeria Police Force, Ikirun Area Command, represented by ASP Alex Adeboye, members of the Governing Council, Registrars of Higher Institutions, Principals of Secondary Schools, parents and well-wishers of the College.

A matriculation song as well as Ewi from the students which thrilled the audience were some of the highlights of the historic event.
