NIGERIA CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION MINIMUM STANDARDS (2020 EDITION)

Islam is a comprehensive religion that pervades all aspects of man’s life including matters of faith and practical living. For a Muslim to conduct his personal and social life in accordance with the tenets of Islam, there is need for him to acquire an in-depth knowledge of Islam. The philosophy of Islamic studies at the NCE level is the development of a balanced personality that is socially accommodating, intellectually alert, morally sound and spiritually dedicated to the cause of Allah. As an aspect of religious study, the focus is the achievement of social solidarity, ethical harmony, human equality and brotherhood in the Nigerian society.

The objectives of Islamic Studies are to:

  1. acquaint the students with the broad knowledge of Islam.
  2. prepare the students to understand Islam as a culture and civilization.
  3. enable graduates to make rigorous and scholarly approach to the contemporary problems of the Nigerian Muslim Community
  4. instill the spirit of God consciousness and to lead students to appreciate and uphold the values and teachings of Islam, and to live by them.
  5. prepare students to teach at the Basic Education level give the students adequate intellectual exposure that will enable them to pursue further education in Islamic studies particularly at the B. Ed degree level.
  1. A Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or G.C.E. ‘O’ Level with credits in 5 subjects including English Language and mathematics at not more than two sittings. Two of the credits must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to offer.
  2. All candidates wishing to be considered for admission must meet the requirements of an accredited body such as JAMB.
  3. Candidate must pass RACOED screening tests and interviews.
